The Batworks Collection
ICBat draws the world
the way it sounds.
A community of nocturnal artists, a growing collection of bat-winged creature artwork, and a colouring book that hands the colours over to you.
The ICBat community
ICBat is not one bat. ICBat is a community — a gathering of artists, doodlers and night owls who share their work under the same name and the same stubborn idea.
It began the way most things in the woodland begin — with somebody saying something ridiculous and meaning it.
A bat. A small, nocturnal, slightly dramatic bat who had decided that the best way to understand the world was to draw it.
Not to document it. Not to catalogue it. To draw it the way it felt.
The community grew around that decision, and the Batworks Collection is what came out of it.
Creatures with bat wings
The artwork at the heart of ICBat is a simple, strange question: what happens when you take rare animals, mythical beasts and creatures pulled straight from the imagination — and give them bat wings?
Wings appear where nature definitely didn't put them. Familiar forms become something stranger. Completely imaginary species sit comfortably alongside creatures from our own world.
Every piece starts as a scribble in the dark. Bats are not known for their eyesight, and ICBat has never once let that stop him. He works by sound, by memory, by the shape of a thing as it moves past him in the night.
The results are strange. They are also, somehow, exactly right.
The Batworks colouring book
The Batworks colouring book is where that artwork makes the jump from digital art to something you can get your hands on.
It collects a range of ICBat's creature designs as black-and-white illustrations, ready for someone else to finish the journey. Instead of simply looking at a finished image on a screen, you can interact with the designs, reinterpret them, and create your own version of what he originally imagined.
There isn't a correct colour for a creature that probably doesn't exist. Make it dark. Make it beautiful. Make it ridiculous. Give it colours nature would immediately file a complaint about.
They're ICBat's creatures. The colours are yours.
Why it belongs here
Woven Roots has never been about a single kind of making.
Books sit next to sensory apps. Music sits next to jewelry. A community of bats who draw sit next to all of it, because the thread that runs through everything we do is not the medium — it is the impulse.
Somebody had an idea. Somebody made it real. Somebody showed it to another person.
ICBat is that impulse with wings.
He also happens to be one of the characters who wandered into the Shattered Island stories and refused to leave, which is how most of our best ideas arrive.
