Ferret Mail

A courier with
questionable ethics.

Fast, nosy, and incapable of leaving a sealed envelope alone — the woodland's ferret carries the letters that keep our community connected.

The woodland's courier

Somebody has to carry the letters.

In the woodland, that somebody is a ferret — fast, nosy, and constitutionally incapable of leaving a sealed envelope alone.

Ferret Mail started as a joke about how many messages our community sends each other. It stopped being a joke the moment we realised how much of the woodland's life happens in writing.

Birthdays. Apologies. Confessions. A hundred small notes that only matter because somebody took the trouble to send them.

The ferret takes all of it. He complains about all of it. He delivers all of it anyway.

A character before a product

The ferret existed long before there was anything for him to do.

He turned up in the concept art first — a character sheet of a fluffy brown ferret drawn from four angles, tail curled, expression permanently mid-scheme.

Then he turned up in the stories, running messages between islands that were, at best, only loosely connected.

By the time we built Ferret Mail, he already had a personality, a gait, and a deeply questionable sense of professional ethics. The product just gave him somewhere to be.

That is the right order, we think. Character first. Everything else follows.

What Ferret Mail is

Ferret Mail is a playful, character-driven messaging experience built around the woodland world.

It is not trying to replace the way you already talk to people. It is trying to make one particular kind of message feel like it was worth sending.

A note that arrives with a courier attached to it lands differently than a notification. It has weight. Somebody carried it.

The ferret is the reason for that. He is the difference between a message and a delivery.

Why we keep him around

Every project in the woodland has a character at the centre of it, and the ferret is one of the clearest examples of why that matters.

A feature is forgettable. A ferret who has opinions about your mail is not.

He also gives us permission to be silly in a way that a plain messaging app never could — and silliness, it turns out, is one of the things our community values most.

So the ferret stays. He has the letters. He is already late.

Send something worth carrying

Ferret Mail is where the woodland's letters live. Write a note, hand it to the ferret, and let him do what he does best.
